Jamestown Bridge will be part of bicycle route

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Bike MS: Ride the Rhode, the cycling route this year will feature a crossing of the Newport and Jamestown bridges.

Two thousand cyclists and volunteers are expected for the 150- mile ride, which will benefit the Rhode Island Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Tickets are now available for the North Kingstown High School Booster Club’s annual Evening of Champions Dinner. This is the biggest fundraiser on the club’s calendar and features dinner, dancing, auctions and a $2,500 raffle. The event will take place on March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Quonset ‘O’ Club.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service will offer four workshops and training programs on resident Canada goose population stabilization and developing grassroots efforts to control the geese. The next workshop will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the USDA-NRCS conference room at 60 Quaker Lane in Warwick.

A seminar on estate planning will be offered on Feb. 22 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Jamestown Philomenian Library.

Eric Archer, a Jamestown attorney and specialist in estate planning, will join Zeldy Lyman, development officer at the Rhode Island Foundation, for the discussion. The two will share an inside view of current estate laws and talk about what may be ahead.

Maybe the lucky car put Art and Jan Washburn on the road to 50 years of marriage, the couple joked when asked why they’ve spent almost their entire lives together.

He remembers picking her up for a first date in that black and gold 1955 Studebaker. He had bought the car used and customized it.
