Robert “Bob” Joseph Fagan, 86, of Jamestown, R.I., and Roswell, Ga., died peacefully surrounded by his loving family Jan. 21, 2016, after a four-month illness. Fagan was the beloved husband of Jean Margaret (Nichols) Fagan. He had been in the wonderful care of the staff of Robert’s Health Centre, North Kingstown, R.I., since the time of his illness.
Fagan was born on June 25, 1929, in Providence, R.I., the son of Earl and Ruth (Palmer) Fagan.
Fagan is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean M. (Nichols) Fagan, and his eight children: Mark (Eli), Gregory, Ann (Mark), Regina (James), Brian (Mary), Sheila (Stephen), Roberta (Larry) and Paul (Erika). He was the loving “Poppi” to 15 grandchildren: Emma, Peter, Klara Serene, Estan, Olivia, Elias, Sophia, James Austin, Nicholas, Ridan, Allison, Mason, Margaret, Genevieve and Fiona.
Fagan was a graduate of La Salle Academy, class of 1947, and Saint Anselm College, class of 1951, where he studied economics. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Rhode Island and pursued a career in the insurance industry. In the early 1970s, he joined Allendale Insurance (FM Global) were he was an insurance claims manager until his retirement in 1994.
Fagan loved spending time with his family, often traveling around the globe to visit his children and grandchildren. He loved tinkering in his shop, often filling woodworking requests and home-improvement projects from his eight children. No project was too grand or too small. In his retirement, he spent hours each day playing the crossword, always a willing Scrabble opponent to Jean and his kids. He was an enthusiastic sports fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
Memorial donations may be made in Fagan’s name to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home, 760 Pollard Blvd. SW, Atlanta, GA 30315, or visit www.olphhome.org.
