Authority raises tolls on Newport Bridge effective July 1

The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority voted yesterday to raise tolls on the Newport Pell Bridge and to submit proposed legislation to the state General Assembly asking for permission to set tolls on the Mount Hope Bridge – but the RITBA is hoping that it doesn’t have to come to that.

Jamestown Bridge will be part of bicycle route

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Bike MS: Ride the Rhode, the cycling route this year will feature a crossing of the Newport and Jamestown bridges.

Two thousand cyclists and volunteers are expected for the 150- mile ride, which will benefit the Rhode Island Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Tickets now available for athletics fundraiser

Tickets are now available for the North Kingstown High School Booster Club’s annual Evening of Champions Dinner. This is the biggest fundraiser on the club’s calendar and features dinner, dancing, auctions and a $2,500 raffle. The event will take place on March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Quonset ‘O’ Club.

Youth baseball league looking for volunteers

By the usual wisdom of Congress, he was lumped together with the other presidents for a holiday named Presidents’ Day to be observed this year on Feb. 20. But our 16th president deserves his own day.
