Gilbert Stuart’s 250th birthday fete planned

A cocktail reception and live auc-tion to benefit the Gilbert Stuart Museum and the Rhode Island Youth Entrepreneurship Program will be held on Saturday, Dec 3, 2005 at the Griswold House in Newport from 6 to 9 p.m.

Stuart, who painted the portrait of George Washington that appears on the U.S. $1 bill, was born to an entre-preneurial family in Saunderstown, Rhode Island on Dec. 3, 1755. He later studied in England and painted more than 1,000 portraits of the famous and near-famous during a career that spanned more than 50 years.

This fund-raising event will cele-brate the 250th Birthday of this world-famous portrait artist and entrepre-neur. Call Ann Marie Marshall at 383-7940.
