Summer reading finale Aug. 25
The Jamestown library’s Summer Reading Program, “Read Up a Storm,” will present a free performance called “Dynamic Earth!” by Pow!Science! for children ages 4 and up and their families Aug. 25, at 6 p.m. in the library’s meeting hall.
This is a chance to explore the powerful forces that shape the everchanging planet. Participants brainstorm a list of the natural disasters that can change the face of the earth in seconds, and then perform hands-on experiments to model earthquakes and tornadoes.
Each participant learns the secret behind how they themselves support more than 2,000 pounds on their shoulders every day, and witness the awesome power of atmospheric pressure.
For the grand finale, each participant will get to build a miniature volcano, witness an eruption, and receive written instructions for producing eruptions of their own at home.
A potluck supper and the awarding of children’s summer reading certificates will follow the program. Sign up to bring a main course, salad, side dish, or dessert. Beverages will be provided.
Registration is underway. Call the library at 423-7280.
