Navy choristers welcome new singers

The Newport Navy Choristers are seeking new members.

The choristers have been performing in the Newport area since 1953, raising over $300,000 for local worthwhile charities. This year, the choristers will be performing in a number of concerts during the holiday season. Additional concerts are planned in March and May.

Membership is open to all members of the Newport Navy community, including active duty, reserve, and retired military, all branches of the military, their spouses and children 16 years of age and older, and Department of Defense personnel and their dependents.

There are no auditions for the main chorus, and the ability to read music is not required to join the group. While experience is helpful, it is not necessary.

Rehearsals for the new season begin on Tuesday, Sept. 6, in the Quinn Lecture Room at the Naval War College starting at 6:15 p.m. and continuing every Tuesday evening thereafter.

For more information, call Steve Larson, chairman, at 847-4256 or Jamestowner JoAnn Loewenthal, chorister director, at 423-3523.
