Samuel J. Cashman Jr., 80
Samuel J. Cashman Jr., 80, of Coronado Street, died Aug. 24, 2005 at South County Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Mary (Cavanaugh) Cashman for 32 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Samuel J. and Irene Galligan) Cashman, he lived in Cumberland before moving to Jamestown 12 years ago.
Mr. Cashman was a graduate of Hope High School. He attended Brown University and graduated from Boston University. A Naval aviator, he served in World War II. Mr. Cashman was a teacher and department chairman for the math and science department at Foxboro High School. He also was a hematologist at Rhode Island Hospital before retiring. He was an Eagle Scout of Troop 82, Providence. Mr. Cashman was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Power Squadron. He was a communicant of St. Mark Church.
He is survived by his four children, Michaeleen A. Farrell of Central Falls, Timothy S. Cashman of Wakefield, Mark P. Cashman of Lebanon, Tenn., Maura C. Curran of Scituate, Mass.; and eight grandchildren. He was the brother of the late John C. Cashman.
His Funeral was held Aug. 27 from the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mark Church, Jamestown. Burial with full military honors was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 222 Richmond Street, Providence, RI 02903, will be appreciated.
