Still time to join the Navy choristers

“ Tomorrow, Sept. 9, the Newport Navy Choristers will be singing for the 9/11 memorial on the Naval War College complex at noon. This memorial is to remember all those past Naval War College alumni who perished at the Pentagon on 9/11.

But it is not too late to start singing with the choristers. The deadline to join the choral group is Tuesday, Sept. 20. All voice ranges are needed.

Membership is open to all members of the Newport Navy community including active duty, reserve and retired military, all branches of the military, their spouses and children 16 years of age and older, and Department of Defense personnel and their dependents. There are no auditions for the main chorus, and you do not need to be able to read music to join this fun group. While experience is helpful, it is not necessary.

Rehearsals for the new season began on Sept. 6 in the Quinn Lecture Room at the Naval War College starting at 6:15 p.m. and will continue every Tuesday evening thereafter.

For more information, call Steve Larson, chairman, at 847-4256 or Jamestowner JoAnn Loewenthal, musical director, at 423-3523.
