Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation is accepting appointments for its special Eco-Depot household hazardous waste collection in Newport. The collection is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1, at Newport Grand, 150 Admiral Kalbfus Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine.

The service is free and available by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call 942-1430, ext. 241.

Items accepted at Eco-Depot include: propane gas tanks,oil and solvent-based paints and stains, varnishes, thinners, turpentine, pesticides, weed killers, fertilizers, automotive fluids such as antifreeze, gasoline, and motor oil.

Other accepted items include swimming pool, photographic and hobby chemicals, lamp oil, fluorescent light bulbs, ice melting compounds, mercury thermometers, and kerosene.
