Nova Scotian fiddler plays at URI Friday
Fiddler Jennifer Roland will perform at the University of Rhode Island on Friday, Sept. 30. The concert is part of Pangaea: The URI Roots Music Series. Free and open to the public, the musical event will be held at Edwards Auditorium on the Kingston Campus at 8 p.m.
Roland, a Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, native, is the youngest of 10 children. Ever since she was born, music has been a major influence in her life. Her father played the fiddle. By the age of three, she was playing the piano, and she was step dancing by the time she was five. She began studying the fiddle at the age of nine.
Roland released her debut CD, Dedication, in 1997 in Europe and Taiwan. Her second album, Wings, included many musicians from her hometown and was released in Europe.
