Heelan promoted to full professor

Judith Heelan, Ph.D. Judith Heelan, Ph.D. Jamestown resident Judith Heelan, Ph.D., has been promoted by Brown Medical School to the academic position of director of microbiology at Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket.

Dr. Heelan has been promoted from associate professor of pathology and laboratory medicine to the rank of professor of pathology and laboratory medicine. She has also been appointed co-director of the Brown Integrated Pathology Residency Program for a three-year term.

Heelan earned her doctorate degree in biological sciencesmicrobiology from the University of Rhode Island and was then certified as a Rhode Island Clinical Laboratory Scientist. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the Registry of Medical Technologists, the American Society for Microbiology, the Northeast Branch of ASM, and the Northeast Association for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease.

In addition to Heelan’s position on the faculty at Brown Medical School, she is also a member of the adjunct faculty at the Community College of Rhode Island, an adjunct assistant professor of microbiology at the University of Rhode Island.
