The Friends of the Jamestown Library will host a Volunteer Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Jamestown Philomenian Library.
Over 30 local groups have been invited to present their organization to the members of the Jamestown community. The organizations will have a table with tended by representatives who will discuss their organization’s agendas and goals. Informational materials will also be available.
Jamestowners can learn about all different kinds of volunteer opportunities in our community. Organizations need members who help make Jamestown a special place to live. This is your chace to become involved in these efforts. Community farm wraps up season
Organizers at the Jamestown Community Farm report that there are still a few remaining vegetables at the farm stand on Eldred Avenue across from the soccer field.
They have pumpkins, butternut squash, peppers, eggplant, and kale.
This Saturday will be the final week of farm stand sales. In addition to what’s on the stand, patrons can scan the tomato patch and take for free any tomatoes still remaining. The farm stand will be open this Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Jamestown Community Farm has had a very successful season and thanks all of Jamestown for supporting this project.
Bike day will ride again this Saturday
This Saturday, Oct. 22, will be Bike Day, a chance for youngsters to have some fun while hearing expert advice on how to safely ride on two wheels.
The event was rained out last Saturday.
The Jamestown Police Department will demonstrate bike safety and the rules of the road. The police will also be putting identification numbers on participants’ bikes.
Island cycle enthusiasts will be on hand to help children learn how to tune up their bikes. Proper helmet fitting and other important information will also be part of the two-hour event.
Everyone is encouraged to ride their bikes to the event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to noon behind the Lawn Avenue School.
Friday, Oct. 28, is walk/bike to school day.
Senior association meets next week
There will be a meeting of the Jamestown Senior Citizens Association on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Senior Center.
A memorial plaque will be presented on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Senior Center at 1 p.m. honoring all of the association’s deceased members. Everyone is welcome. Those planning to attend should call the Senior Center at 423-2658. Cake and coffee will be served.
This year the Senior Christmas Party will be be held on Dec. 11 at the Portguese American Citizens’ Club. Tickets are $15.
NKPTSO to meet about science fair
The North Kingstown High School Parent Teacher Student Organization will meet tonight, Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. in the school’s Media Center.
The agenda will feature information about the high school science fair project, which is a requirement for all freshmen and open to all students. A representative from the science department will be present to discuss all phases of this project and to answer any questions parents or students may have regarding student participation in this year’s fair.
The NKHS PTSO is much more than a fund-raising organization. Organizers ask that parents give one of the meetings a try because they are full of information about what is going on at the high school.
