Visit island businesses at the annual expo tonight
Tonight is the annual Jamestown Business Expo, sponsored by the island’s Chamber of Commerce. Chamber secretary Donna Kohler said that the expo provides a great opportunity for islanders to see what kind of businesses and services are available. The expo runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Portuguese American Citizens’ Club. Admission is free.
Whether one is looking for a good restaurant, a new attorney or a landscaper, everyone will have the chance to make new contacts at the expo. Retail shops and restaurants are very visible in Jamestown, but the expo will also feature home-based businesses of those islanders with interesting and unusual services to offer, Kohler said.
One new business exhibiting for the first time is View This, a company that prints photographs on canvas, owned by Mary Brittain. Patty Watson of Taste Design will be showing examples of her interior design skills, Kohler said.
People are always excited about the expo food offerings, Kohler said. This year all restaurants will be participate in an island chowder tasting. Restaurants will give free samples of their chowders and bread will be provided by the Village Hearth bakery. “Everyone will get a mini-meal” if they come, Kohler said.
Drawings for Chamber Checks in the amount of $25 each will be held every 15 minutes during the expo, Kohler said. All attendees will be given a ticket when they enter and must be present to win. The checks are valid in many participating businesses in Jamestown.
Some 35 businesses are expected to participate in the annual event.
