Jane S. Sprague, 62

Jane S. Sprague, 62, of Reservoir Circle, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 at Newport Hospital. She was the beloved wife of William Sprague.

Born in Oklahoma City, Okla., a daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Brown) Shick, she had lived in Indianapolis, Ind., before moving to Jamestown 29 years ago. Mrs. Sprague was a 1965 graduate of Butler University. She had worked in public relations and journalism for many years.

In recent years, she was the editor of the Jewish Voice for the Jewish Federation of Rhode Island for 12 years, then became the executive director of Friends of Touro Synagogue for a year, until her retirement in 2002.

Mrs. Sprague won many awards and citations in journalism over the years. She was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Providence, a past president of the Republican Town Committee of Jamestown, and a founding member of the Jamestown Fund for the Performing Arts, RI Foundation.

She was the devoted mother of Paul Sprague and his wife Errin of Jamestown, Sara Sprague of North Kingstown, and stepchildren William G. Sprague of Indianapolis, Ind., Karen Buss of Slidell, La., and Mary Beth Sprague of Pittsburgh, Pa. She was the dear sister of Marcia Woodruff of Kingston, N.Y., and

the late Peter Shick. Mrs. Sprague was also the loving grandmother of Spencer, Riley, Ethan, Esmeree, Skye, and Jayna. She was adored step-grandmother of 10 and the cherished greatgrandmother of five.

Funeral services were

held Tuesday, Nov. 1, in Beavertail State Park, Jamestown. Burial followed in Cedar Cemetery. Shiva will observed at 4 Reservoir Circle today, Nov. 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
