Chorus rehearses for holiday concerts
The Jamestown Community Chorus is midway in its rehearsals for holiday concerts slated for Saturday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 11, 3 p.m., at the Central Baptist Church.
The chorus is also in the last month of rehearsals for its participation, along with 5 other choruses, in RISings, the inaugural presentation of the Rhode Island Festival Chorus in Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence on Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Some of the selections that will be featured in the Jamestown holiday concerts include such carols as “Gloucestershire Wassail,” “Past Three A Clock,” and “Somerset Carol.” Old favorites include “Strike Up Your Instruments of Joy,” “Noel Benedictus,” and “Sherburne” from the Sacred Harp. Haydn’s “Awake the Harp’s “Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium,” and Martin’s “The Awakening” will not only be performed by the chorus in December, but they will also be sung by 300 singers, including those from the Jamestown Community Chorus, performing at the Rhode Island Festival Chorus in November.
