Lighted boats will parade in Newport Harbor Saturday night

Sail into the most wonderful time of the year at the eighth annual Holiday Harbor Lights Illuminated Boat Parade, a dazzling display of nautical holiday spirit. The parade will be held along the Newport Harbor waterfront on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 6:30 p.m.

Part of the 35th annual Christmas in Newport calendar of events, the parade is open to any business, organization, or boat owner interested in participating.

The parade route will gather in the main harbor just south of the Goat Island Causeway and then proceed south in the channel between Goat Island and the main harbor mooring field. At the south edge of the main mooring field, the procession will turn east and proceed counterclockwise several times around Newport Harbor.

Prizes will be awarded in several categories, and judges include Newport City Manager Ed Lavallee, state Senator Teresa Paiva-Weed, George Pike, Sue Cooper, Jack Grant, Kathy Silvia, John Corbishley, Patience Connerton, and Phil Garland.

The event has no rain date. If the weather is questionable, a recorded message will be available at 845-5815. Any organization, business, or boat owner, that would like to get involved in the seventh annual Holiday Harbor Lights Illuminated Boat Parade, should contact Tim Mills, Newport harbormaster, at 845-5815.
