Wing nominated for recognition

Richard Wing of North Main Road is being nominated for recognition and commendation by the Town Council. Acting Police Chief William G. Donovan proposed that Wing be honored for his volunteer services to the Jamestown Police Department.

The recommendation was prepared for this week’s council meeting that was cancelled due to a lack of a quorum. The recommendation will be presented again at the Dec. 12 council meeting.

Donovan said that Wing suggested that he help deploy the police department’s speed-monitoring trailer to curb speeding. He was trained by the department in the use of the trailer and began deploying it May 23. Since then, he has deployed the trailer at 105 different times and locations throughout the island, involving a total of 1,206.5 hours of monitoring, according to Donovan.

Wing also fabricated a mechanism that allows officers to quickly and easily lock the trailer wheels, preventing unauthorized movement of the trailer, Donovan reported. The device was provided at no cost to the town, the acting chief added. and commended for the many hours of his time he had devoted to this worthy cause,” Donovan wrote.
