Paws for Cause
The town has generously provided a 2.5-stall, concrete-block garage building behind the Town Offices on Southwest Avenue. Included with the building are sewer, water and electricity. The rehab of the building will provide safe shelter for Jamestown’s stray and relinquished pets, as well as a place animal lovers can go to help with their care.
The first need is for the removal of the three large spruce trees which have ruined the roof of the building. We are looking for a licensed and insured tree removal company to help with this task.
Besides those willing to provide labor, the Friends are in need of construction materials and, of course, monetary donations. By next week a Website will be established listing the rehab construction schedule and all of the individual projects to be completed. From electrical to plumbing, to carpentry to landscaping and painting, we can use anyone and everyone who wants to volunteer.
Weather permitting, the ribbon cutting ceremonies and openingday festivities are scheduled for the weekend before Valentine’s Day, Feb. 11-12, 2006.
If you wish to help, please call Paws & Claws at 423-9677.
As with any charity, fund-raising is a large part of the operation. One of the biggest holiday presents the Friends have received is from Dr. Jack Civic of the Jamestown Animal Clinic.
Dr. Civic has offered to match donations up to $2,500 that are made to the Friends of the Jamestown Animal Shelter by Dec. 31.
Anyone wishing to make a contribution toward the medical care of the shelter’s animals should send a check made out to the Friends of the Jamestown Animal Shelter, c/o of the Jamestown Animal Clinic, 30 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown RI 02835.
All matching gifts must be received by Dec. 31, 2005, to qualify for this generous donation.
The Friends have other events planned to fund the shelter. The Black-tie Doggie Ball is planned for July 2006. But, if your dog has formal attire, he or she is just dying to wear, bring them to the fourth annual Jamestown Doggie Parade on Saturday, Dec. 17. Prizes will be awarded for the best holiday costume, and we can assure everyone a great time.
