LNG dredging hearing tonight in Bristol

The Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public hearing tonight on dredging to widen the shipping channel in Fall River, Mass. so that LNG tankers can reach the proposed gas storage facility at Weaver’s Cove.

The hearing is at 5 p.m. at Mt. Hope High School in Bristol. State Rep. Bruce Long (R-Middletown, Jamestown) said that while all the dredging will occur in Massachusetts, the proposal will damage 11 acres of flounder spawning grounds that will have an impact on Rhode Island fisheries.
