Christmas pageant this Saturday night

The annual Christmas Pageant is set for this Saturday, Dec. 24, beginning at 5 p.m. at the lower Shoreby Hill Green.

The pageant is a living tableaux of the humble birth of Jesus Christ in a barn in Bethlehem, played by several Jamestown residents.

The pageant is in its 32nd year, having been started by Jeanne Bunkley, who grew up with a similar pageant in her hometown of Bronxville, N.Y., where they began having a Christmas pageant in 1915.

This year’s participants include Fire Chief Jim Bryer as Joseph and Madison Auch as Mary. The three wisemen are being played by Mike Swistak, Bruce Sundlun, and Robert Edgar.

The Manger Angel is Mariah Messenger. The Tree Angel is Libby LaMantia, and other angels are played by Eliza Kallfelz, Sophie Primiano, Rachel Warner, Tori Martin, Raeshelle DeValerio, Lucy Jones, Cara Liberati, and Molly Sheekey.

Shepherds are played by members of the Lions Club, the Rotary Club, the VFW and American Legion, and the Boy Scouts. They are Bob Dolan, Mary Kelly, Mike Schnack, Win Reed, John McGrath, Jimmy Perry, Ron Lindgren, Nick Lutes, and Cameron Toppa.

A sheep is being provided by Watson Farm, and a donkey is “in the works,” organizers say.

This year’s pageant committee includes Susan W. Lutes, Jeanne Bunkley, Bill Munger, Matt Bolles, Don Richardson, Jim McLoughlin, Mary Waddington, and Mary Heath.

Readers will be Ray Dunlevy, Jim A. McLoughlin, and Charlotte Richardson.

Special thanks go to Fred Brome, Win Reed, Dave Volpe, Lauren Marsh, Bill Munger, the Minto family, the committee members and the Lower Shoreby Hill Association.

Those going to the pageant should bring a flashlight. There will be no pageant if it rains.
