Parents invited to information session
The Jamestown School will hold a session on Tuesday, Jan. 11, to give parents a chance to meet the new student assistance counselor, Stephanie Wordell, and provide information on the recent community-needs assessment done by the Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force.
Required of each town by the state Department of Mental Health, Retardation and Hospitals, the task force recently completed a study in which it compared Jamestown to other municipalities in Rhode Island and the U.S. on substance abuse, particularly among middle school students.
Consultant Donna Levesque, has examined the local research and has prepared a report for Jamestown that recommends actions that parents can take to reduce the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco by their children.
The session will take place at the Lawn Avenue School library at 7 p.m.
