Community chorus starts rehearsing for spring sing
Rehearsals for the spring concerts of the Jamestown Community Chorus will begin on Monday, Jan 16, at 7 p.m., at Central Baptist Church on Narragansett Avenue.
The community chorus is a mixed choral group open to all who enjoy singing and who agree with the promotion of community spirit in all activities. There are no auditions. There is a modest fee for membership and nominal cost for music. Prior choral experience is not required.
In the early days on Conanicut Island, the village of Jamestown was isolated and so the residents depended on each other for support in all aspects of daily living. This created a strong sense of community that still exists today. Musical Director B. J. Whitehouse will tell you that is why the word “community” comes before the word “chorus” in the name of this hometown chorus.
The chorus board and members encourage new singers to join them in the upcoming Monday evening rehearsals. The spring concerts will be held on Saturday, May 13, and Sunday, May 14.
