School janitor arrested on warrant for drug charge
Kevin J. Barrett, 43, of 75 Southwest Ave. was picked up on a Newport District Court warrant Jan. 10 at the Melrose Avenue School, where he serves as a janitor, police said.
Police said the warrant was issued when Barrett failed to appear for a cost review on a prior charge by the Newport Police Department of “manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance.”
Barrett was taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions, police said.
Jamestown School Superintendent Kathy Sipala, who had just learned of the arrest Wednesday morning, said that the charge is serious enough to warrant “consideration” of dismissal.
“And that’s just what we’ll do,” she said.
