Island athletes take home sports awards from N.K. high school

The North Kingstown High School Athletic Department held its Sports Awards Night Jan. 8 to present awards to student athletes who participated in fall sports.

Many Jamestown students were honored at the ceremony.

Athletic Director Keith Kenyon said that 62 percent of all athletes made the honor roll for the first half of the year, and he recognized the scholar athletes as part of the ceremony.

The three biggest sports awards given to Jamestown residents included one to Allie Dolce, who was named MVP of the varsity field hockey team. Dolce was also named to the first team All Division and the first team All State.

Caitlin Crawford was named MVP of the girl’s cross-country team. Crawford also was named to the first team All Division, first team All State, and the first team All Class. The girls’ cross-country team had a stellar 10-0 record in the Southern Division Championships and were the JV State Champions.

Another MVP award went to Jodie Woodside, for her participation in girls’ tennis. Woodside was also named to the first team All Division.

Other Jamestown awards included the principal’s sportsmanship award in boys’ cross country to Corey Lester. Lester was named to the first team All Division, the second team All Class and the All Academic team. Nate Wigton, also on the cross-country team, was named to the first team All Division.

In girls’ tennis, Chelsea Cordes received the principal’s sportsmanship award. Alicia Grenier was named to the second team All Division in girls’ varsity soccer.

In girls’ tennis, other awards included Jodie Woodside, named to the first team All Division, and Lindsay Hamilton, who made the second team All Division.

In varsity football, Josh North made the All Academic team.

Sam Andreozzi was named to the second team All Division in girls’ varsity volleyball.

In boys’ varsity soccer, Brett Uttley made the first team All Division and Ben Nadeau was named to the third team All Division.

In varsity field hockey, Megan Scully was named first team All Division and first team All State. Erin Simmons was named to the All Academic team.
