Christian World Adoption, a fully licensed and accredited nonprofit international adoption agency, is offering free adoption information seminars for prospective parents.

The first session of the year is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Newport Public Library’s Rotary Board Room on the lower level.

Jennifer Frey of Jamestown is an Adoption Advisor for CWA and will lead the Newport seminar.

An adoptive parent of a daughter named Jensen from the Hunan Province in China, Frey became an adoption advisor after her experience with the process about a year ago. Frey, along with her husband Jay, also have a biological son, Jackson, who is now four years old.

The Saturday session is a chance to learn about the legal process, what children are available, the time involved in the process, costs, financial assistance, as well as information about the countries, travel requirements, cultural issues, and what to expect when parents travel to pick up their child.

Frey said adopting is “not cheap,” but there are tax credits and grants available to help defray some of the costs.

Adoption support groups, as well as other services and helpful books, will all be discussed.

The seminars are not required to begin the adoption process, but CWA encourages clients and parents within driving distance of any of the seminar locations to attend.

Christian World Adoption currently offers adoption programs in half a dozen countries: China, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine. Their primary mission is to serve children as they seek to provide permanent families who will love, nurture, and care for them.

Christian World Adoption is one of the largest non-profit international adoption agencies in the U.S. Since 1991 they have placed thousands of children into loving families throughout the United States and abroad. To meet the needs of clients and the children, CWA works closely with orphanages, foster homes, government officials, private lawyers and facilitators in the host countries. CWA is a Christian adoption agency, but regardless of religion, couples or individuals can adopt as long as they can provide a lifetime of care and a loving home for a child.

More seminars will be announced for the upcoming months. Contact Jennifer Frey, adoption advisor, at freyri@cwa.org or 423-1842 for more information.
