Sailor to give talk on North Atlantic crossing
On Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m., experienced blue-water sailor Stephen Lirakis will speak at the Jamestown library in a presentation that compares the 2003 and 2005 Atlantic crossing challenges.
Lirakis will share his experiences in the 2003 Daimler-Chrysler North Atlantic Challenge in which he raced on Lawrence Huntington’s Snow Lion, a Nelson Merrick design built in 1992. He also sailed in the 2005 Rolex Transatlantic Challenge aboard Tempest, the classic 80-foot Sparkman Stevens maxi ketch. The very different boats will be compared in these different races.
Sailing enthusiasts should not miss this lively and informative evening, which is hosted by the Friends of the Jamestown Library. The event is free and open to the public.
