Event to raise awareness of teen dating violence

The U.S. Congress has approved a resolution designating the week of Feb. 6-12 National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week.

Join the Women’s Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties for National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week, Friday Feb. 3, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Jamestown Teen Center, 6 West St.

Ben Carter and James Grande, two University of Rhode Island students, will be performing live music during this event. Both musicians are not only singer/song writers. They are also known for playing the guitar and their alternative/folk-rock style.

Admission and refreshments are free, but the tropical drinks cost $2. This event is sponsored by Students Against Domestic Abuse and Newport County Youth Council. For more information, call Barbara Zammer at 846-5263.

The Women’s Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties is one of the six member agencies of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence. They provide comprehensive services to families affected by domestic violence. Services provided include an emergency safe home, a 24-hour help line, court advocacy, counseling, community outreach, support groups, children’s programs, and prevention through public awareness and education.
