Jamestown baseball lists upcoming deadlines, tryouts
The Jamestown Baseball Association wants to remind boys who will be between the ages of 13 and 15 on April 30 that they are eligible to try out for the new Babe Ruth team.
This is the first time Jamestown has fielded a senior league level team in many years. To accommodate players, the association is extending the registration deadline to Friday, March 10, for 13to 15-year-olds.
Registration deadlines for all other age groups, both boys and girls, will still be on March 31.
Register players by downloading a registration form at www.jamestownri.com/baseball, and then mail it in with the appropriate fee.
Registration forms are also available at the Community Center and Baker’s Pharmacy. When registering players for the 13to 15-yearold Babe Ruth team, parents should write in “1315” in the top right corner of the form, and note that the registration fee for 13to 15-year-old players is $65.
The annual indoor baseball tryout will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 8:30 a.m. at Sam Horn’s Around the Horn Indoor Sports Complex on Route 2 in East Greenwich.
All Babe Ruth and first-time major league candidates are required to attend this tryout. Players who cannot attend must call Tony Rafanelli at 423-3953.
Present major league players should not attend these tryouts since they will remain in the major league. Players between the ages of 9 and 12, by April 30 are eligible to try out for the major leagues. Players’ forms must be submitted prior to tryouts.
Players and families should refer to the Jamestown Press in the next few weeks regarding announcements of the outdoor practices and tryouts that will take place in April.
During the first week of April, outdoor tryouts will be for the Babe Ruth and Major Leaguelevel candidates. During the remainder of the months, outdoor practices will be held for all age groups.
These outdoor sessions will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., Saturdays at 9 a.m., and Sundays at noon at the Lawn Avenue fields, weather permitting. The baseball association will need parents to help with these practices. Baseball experience is not necessary.
