Drunk driving charged

Peter M. Edmonstone, 48, of Wickford was charged Feb. 24 with drunk driving after a traffic stop for speeding on Route 138.

It was Edmonstone’s first offense, police said. Edmonstone is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing March 3 in Newport District Court, according to police.

• Robert Atamian, 37, of 1111 North Main Rd. pleaded no contest Feb. 17 to a charge of driving with a suspended license. He was fined $250 and court costs, police said.

• Peter Mahoney, 19, of Coventry pleaded no contest Feb. 22 to a first offense charge of possessing marijuana. He had the charge filed for one year and was ordered to pay $200 to the victims’ compensation fund, police said.

• William Meininger, 39, of South Kingstown pleaded no contest Feb. 14 to a charge of obstructing an officer in the execution of his duties and to a charge of violating probation.

On the obstruction charge, Meininger was given a one-year suspended sentence at the Adult Correctional Institutions and one year of probation. On the second charge he was given time served, police said.
