Mary Dutra Sylvia, 95
Mary Dutra Sylvia, 95, of 30 Lawn Ave. died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 at South County Nursing Center surrounded by family, friends, and her canine companion, Apple Jack. She was the wife of the late Mike Sylvia for 62 years.
Born on the old Dutra Farm, at 40 Watson Ave., on Sept. 6, 1910, she was the oldest living native-born Jamestowner. Her passions were baking, gardening, and doting on her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mark Church.
She is survived by sons, Mike Sylvia Jr., David Sylvia, and Jerry Sylvia; a daughter, Layne Clarke; grandchildren Erin Clarke Marsh, Whitney Clarke Marzano, Donald J. Clarke, Linda S. Hurteau, Michael Sylvia III, Cheryl Dodd, Gary Sylvia, Janna Sylvia, Donna Gilbert, Kristy Sylvia, Brian Sylvia, and Cindi Sylvia. She leaves 20 great-grandchildren who called her "GG."
She also leaves her caretaker and best friend Kathy Brownell, whose compassion and care allowed her to remain at home until shortly before her death.
