Play ball! Sign up for baseball now

Time to register for Jamestown baseball teams. Parents can register players by downloading a form from www.jamestownri.com and then mail it in with the appropriate fee. Registration forms are also available at the Recreation Center and at Baker's Pharmacy.

When registering players for the new 13to 15-year-old Babe Ruth team, parents should clearly write in "13-15" in the top right corner of the form. Note that the registration fee for 13to 15-year-old players is $65. One final live registration will occur on Saturday, March 18, at the Lawn Avenue School gym from 9 to 10 a.m. All registrations forms must be turned in by Friday, March 31.

The annual indoor baseball tryout will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 8:30 a.m. at Sam Horn's Around the Horn Indoor Sports Complex on Route 2 in East Greenwich. First-time major league candidates, boys and girls, are required to attend this tryout and candidates must be a minimum of 9 years old on April 30.

Players who cannot attend should call Tony Rafanelli at 423-3953.

Current major league players should not attend these tryouts as they will remain placed in the major league. No player can try out unless their registration form has already been sent in.

Babe Ruth League tryouts will be announced soon in the Jamestown Press.

Parents are needed to help out with practice sessions, which are currently scheduled for Tuesday and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., Saturdays at 9 a.m., and Sundays at noon, weather permitting. Call Steve Heath at 423-0160 to volunteer.

The Jamestown Baseball Association is asking various civic organizations to consider sponsoring recycling receptacles. Contact Tony Rafanelli for more information. Also, the baseball association is in need of a weatherproof public address system.
