Weekly columnist for the Providence Journal and Jamestowner Rita Lussier has won first place in the Global/Human Interest category in the Erma Bombeck Writing Competition.

Lussier's winning essay, a Christmas story of loss and regained faith in humanity, was one of over 1,200 entries in the contest named after the celebrated author and newspaper columnist Erma Bombeck.
