Alfred Hillier, 66

Alfred "Fred" Hillier, 66, of Ship Street died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Marianne (Basile) Hillier for 44 years.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Alfred S. and Catherine (O'Leary) Hillier.

Mr. Hillier was an Independent Property Claims Insurance Adjustor for 30 years before retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Newport Lodge of Elks and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of South County. He also enjoyed cooking and was an avid sports fan. Mr. Hillier enjoyed spending time with his family and lived at his present address for the past 32 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children, John P. Hillier and his wife Maureen of Westboro, Mass.; Robert B. Hillier of Jamestown; Susan L. O'Brien and her husband Steven of Cranston; and Karen H. Donnellan and her husband Robert of Wakefield. He was the beloved "Grampy" of Adam, Christine, Michael, Conor, Sarah, Steven, Katie, Aidan and Molly. Mr. Hillier was the brother of Catherine Woodard of Cedar Key, Fla., and John Hillier of South Portland, Maine. Mr. Hillier is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

His funeral from the Nardolillo Funeral Home was held Monday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mark Church. Burial with military honors was in Rhode Island Veteran's Cemetery in Exeter.
