Lawn Avenue science team earns medals

The Jamestown Science Olympiad Team brought home several medals from the April 1 science event. The Lawn Avenue School Science Olympiad Team, coached by Jim Kaczynski, traveled to Rhode Island College to participate in the Rhode Island Science Olympiad. The 13-member team consisting of representatives from all grade levels competed in over 20 events.

Some events like Bridge Building, Bottle Rockets, and Sounds of Music involved building devices at home to be used at the Olympiad, while other events such as Experimental Design and Disease Detectives tested the students knowledge and abilities to perform scientific tasks. The team received a gold medal in Disease Detective, a silver in Meteorology, and bronze medals in Experimental Design and Science Bowl.

Thirty-four schools from around the state were represented in the senior and junior divisions at the event. Members of the team members included Eliza Chase, Sarah Croak, Erica Lush, Madelaine Crabtree, Anthony Irwin, Jacob Wigton, Mike Brendlinger, Dan Hansen, Eric Holtzman, Casey Brown, Dylan Vogel, Ryan Rosa, and Amina Brown.
