Warriors will be represented by a wolf at island schools
After studying the matter for some months, the students at Jamestown School have selected the image of the wolf to be their new mascot. The wolf replaces a Native American warrior image.
As part of the process to select the new mascot, the Student Council invited Narragansett Indian tribal leader John Brown to come meet with the students to discuss the image of the warrior.
Brown explained to the students that many tribal leaders were among those who once inhabited the land now occupied by the schools. According to tribal beliefs, the wolf represents leadership and would be a meaningful symbol of the school's Warrior pride.
The students are very enthusiastic about their mascot having historical relevance while embodying the energetic spirit of the warrior. The Warrior will remain the name of the island's sports teams and the school newspaper.
