New island basket business supplies the perfect gifts

Karen Potter of Bella Baskets. Karen Potter of Bella Baskets. Karen Potter of Jamestown is introducing her new business "Bella Baskets" in time for spring giving.

A former administrative assistant, who said she has always had a creative streak, Potter decided recently to start a home-based gift-basket business that will provide the perfect gift for just about anyone.

"I was ready to make a change in my life," Potter said, adding that she took a class in the giftbasket business that inspired her to "stumble ahead at full speed."

She will personally interview the gift-giver to gain some insight as to the personality of the recipient before putting together a gift designed expressly for them, Potter said. Gifts for fishermen, sailors,

gardeners and teachers are just a few of the basket themes that Potter has come up with, although she said that she's always ready to design something brand new.

She is working on First Communion baskets to be given to children participating in the sacrament in May, she said.

Potter said that she is prepared to do last-minute baskets and can have something ready for the person who realizes the day before that they need a birthday or anniversary gift.

Bella Baskets was named after Potter's daughter, Isabella, she said, noting that bella means "beautiful," in Spanish.

So, for a beautiful or Bella Basket, give Karen Potter a call at 423-3602. Delivery in Jamestown is free.
