Jamestown Scrabblers compete in nationals

Jamestown sent two students to the National Scrabble Tournament, held last weekend in Boston.

Quinn Earley, in grade 8, and Casey Brown, in grade 7, took 37th place out of 98 teams from all across the United States.

Scrabble coach Ellen McKenna, who has loved scrabble since middle school, said the kids had a "very respectable" showing at the tournament. This is the second time Jamestown has participated in the tournament.

McKenna said that the two boys, who played as a team, got a high score of 540 in their best game and scored in the "mid300s" in their remaining matches. They won three of their six matches, McKenna said.

Consisting of students in grades 5 through 8, the Jamestown School's Scrabble Club has seven "very dedicated" players, McKenna said. The club is sponsored by the Jamestown Education Foundation.
