Island dogs must be licensed by Monday

Residents have until Friday, April 28, to license their dogs in Jamestown. As of Monday, May 1, all owners of unregistered dogs are subject to a $25 late fee, plus the cost of the license.

The license is valid from May 1, 2006 to April 30, 2007. Dogs under the age of six months are exempt.

In order to acquire a dog license, proof of rabies inoculation must be presented to the Town Clerk's Office in person or through the mail. Rabies tags are insufficient because they do not indicate the expiration of the last vaccination.

Residents should return the dog license form that was mailed to them with a fee of $5 for neutered dogs or a fee of $15 for dogs that are not neutered. Proof of neutering must be provided if it has not been in the past. If the license is for a new dog, license forms are available at Town Hall, 93 Narragansett Ave. For details, call 423-7200.
