Lions Club to host top Coast Guard officer, public invited to meeting
The Jamestown Lions Club has invited Chief Warrant Officer Guthlein as its guest speaker at their monthly meeting on May 9. This meeting will be open to the public.
Chief Warrant Officer Tom Guthlein Commanding Officer of the U.S.Coast Guard station at Castle Hill received the prestigious national Captain Jarvis award for 2005. The Jarvis award is given to the most outstanding officer in the Coast Guard in recognition for his or her inspirational leadership.
Officer Guthlein received this award for his extraordinary leadership while serving as commanding officer of the Castle Hill station. He has been recognized for his efforts in bring the station from a sub-par ready for operations evaluation to a full-operational standard in a matter of weeks.
Under Guthlein's leadership and technical proficiency, the Castle Hill station received the Kimball Award for outstanding readiness during the Coast Guard's evaluation in 2004.
He has made significant impact throughout the Coast Guard through his presentations to Prospective Officer In Charge Classes and as an active member of the Surf Operations and Surf Training Advisory Group.
