Yacht school to hold open house Saturday

The International Yacht Restoration School will host a Spring Open House on Saturday, April 29, from 1 to 4 p.m.

According to IYRS Program Associate Jay Picotte, anyone with an interest in classic yachts, potential students, and those who appreciate fine woodworking should put the date on their calendars, for spring is the most dynamic time of year inside Restoration Hall. Right now, there are 11 boats in

their final stages of restoration, and students are working toward their graduation day, which is a few weeks away.

The open house will be held at the IYRS campus at 449 Thames St., Newport.

For potential full-time students, the event is a valuable opportunity to meet current students, see the campus, and talk to staff before finalizing an application for the fall term. Those interested in taking courses on weekends or in

the evening can use the afternoon to learn about course offerings. Summer courses begin in mid-June with classes in woodworking, maintenance of onboard systems, restoration, and sailing and seamanship.

Prospective students who would like detailed information on course offerings, financial aid, and employment opportunities are encouraged to schedule an appointment during the Spring Open House with Picotte or call 848-5777.
