S t o r i e s o f p i r a t e s a Newport library

Paula Dugan, storyteller and head of Children's Services at the Newport Public Library, will tell tales of treachery, adventure, mermaids and more in the John Clarke Children's Program Room at the library located at 300 Spring St. on Saturday on May 27.

Stories will be told from 10 to 11 a.m. After the stories, children may construct pirate crafts from 11 a.m. to noon. Craft projects include creating a pirate hat and treasure chest. Children's Department staff will be dressed as pirates for the day, and one salty privateer will adorn her shoulder with a live parrot. Pirate books and other materials may be checked out free with a library card. This free program is designed for children ages 4 to 12. No registration is necessary, just drop-in.

This event is part of a citywide Pirate Fest, a celebration of pirate history, lore, and life.
