Jamestown & Newport Ferry to run

Ferry service between Jamestown village, Fort Adams, Rose Island, and Newport Harbor will begin Memorial Day weekend, with veterans riding free.

The 45-passenger ferry Jamestown will start running weekends from May 27 through June 18, then every day through Labor Day. Returning to weekends in the fall through Columbus Day, including express

service to the Newport International Boat Show Sept. 14 through Sept. 17.

There will be 12 departures daily from Conanicut Marina, 1 Ferry Wharf, Jamestown, beginning at 8:30 a.m., connecting with the RIPTA Newport-Providence Ferry departure from Perrotti Park, and then connecting with the Block Island Ferry departure at Fort Adams State Park. Additionally, there will be 11 departures daily from Bowen's Landing, Market Square in Newport, beginning at 10:06 a.m. to Fort Adams, Rose Island, and Jamestown village.

Fares for the 2006 season are $8.50 for a one-way crossing or $15 for an all-day, on-off pass. Inner harbor fares to and from Fort Adams State Park are $5. Bikes are $2 each.
