Jam with the Clams event will include live and silent auctions

The Audubon Society of Rhode Island will host its annual spring gala that will take place Saturday, June 3, in Jamestown.

Jam with the Clams, a firsttime clambake and auction with music by Chris Monti will run from 6 to 10 p.m. on a beautiful site overlooking Dutch Harbor and Sheffield Cove. A traditional New England clambake will be served at 7 p.m. The event benefits Rhode Island school children through support of the Audubon's environmental education programs.

Honorary event chairmen are Senator Lincoln Chafee and Senator Jack Reed. Committee chairpersons are Jamestown residents Dick and Emily Boenning and Chris and Candy Powell. Mr. Boenning and Mrs. Powell are also members of the society's board of directors. The event's lead sponsor is National Grid.

A live auction, to take place during dinner, will be part of the evening's festivities.

Clambake and auction proceeds will support the outreach efforts of the society's environmental education programs. Each year tens of thousands of Rhode Island students participate in the society's programs held at schools, Audubon refuges statewide, and the Audubon Environmental Education Center in Bristol.

The public is invited to Jam with the Clams. For reservations, priced at $150 per person, more information about the event, or to make a donation to the auction, contact the Audubon Society of Rhode Island at 949-5454.
