Emily Winthrop Roberts, 51
Emily Winthrop Roberts, 51, recently of Jamestown died May 4, 2006 of heart failure in Belize, Central America.
She is survived by her mother, Adelaide Comstock Roberts of Washington Depot, Conn.; brother R. Brooke Roberts of Newport; and sister Alexandra Baylies of Gaston, S. C.
Emily was for many years a devoted stepmother to Sarah and Benjamin DeLeiris.
It was in Belize that Emily was able to put into practice her love of art and teaching, and her desire to be of service to others. She loved the village of Monkey River, especially her students, and found much happiness there. She spoke of how she enjoyed its natural beauty, especially swimming in the warm water and dancing barefoot in the sand.
The Anglican Bishop of Belize led a service of prayer and remembrance in Belize City, to celebrate Emily's life. A memorial service is being planned for this summer on Great Cranberry Island in Maine, where Emily lived.
Locally, there will be a memorial service for Emily at St. Columba's Chapel on Vaucluse Ave. in Middletown at 2 p.m. this Saturday, May 20.
Friends and family are invited to gather at the parish hall after the service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in Emily's memory be sent to:
