State beaches open this weekend

The state Department of Environmental Management has announced that all state beaches will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Saturday, May 27, weather and staffing permitting.

The beaches at World War II Memorial State Park in Woonsocket and at the Burlingame picnic area and campground in Charlestown will be open weekends-only until June 17, and daily thereafter until Labor Day. Scarborough North, Roger Wheeler, and Misquamicut state beaches are now open weekends, weather-permitting, to accommodate early beach-goers and advance season-pass sales.

The DEM's Division of Parks and Recreation last year instituted a season-pass system featuring a bar-coded identity zip transponder that is mounted on the inside of the windshield.

The daily beach parking fee for Rhode Island residents is $6 on weekdays and $7 on weekends and holidays. Season passes are also available.
