Marine channel opens under Jamestown Bridge

A portion of the navigation channel under the Jamestown Bridge was re-opened to marine traffic in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

The U.S. Coast Guard has placed six markers in the center of the channel - three green buoys on the west side and three red buoys on the east side - creating a 300-foot navigation zone.

The temporary channel is restricted to vessels with a drafts no greater that 15 feet and transit is only allowed in daylight hours.

In addition, only one-way traffic will be allowed in the temporary channel, with no passing or overtaking of other vessels permitted.
