Meet the author of 'Black Duck' on June 17

Local author Janet Taylor Lisle will sign copies of her new book "Black Duck" at Island Books on Saturday, June 17 at 3 p.m.

Black Duck, published by Penguin Young Readers Group, is a historical novel for young adults based on the events surrounding the real Black Duck, a notorious rumrunner craft that smuggled thousands of cases of liquor onto Rhode Island shores.

Set in the 1920s with prohibition in full swing on Aquidneck Island, "Black Duck" is the gripping story of two young boys who find themselves caught in a war between two of the era's most ferocious prohibition gangs.

Lisle has written numerous novels for young adults many of which are set in Rhode Island. She has earned the prestigious Newbery Honor and won the Scott O'Dell Award. She lives in Little Compton.
