Important lessons learned from art

Eighty students from the Lawn Avenue School had the adventure of a field trip Friday, June 2, to view firsthand how art is a part of our world outside of the classroom.

From exposure to a variety of art-related businesses, schools, and studios, these youngsters experienced objects and ideas through a multitude of senses and were able to directly interact with the artists.

The day-long trip to Newport coordinated by grade 5, grade 8, and the visual arts teacher included visits to Suydam + Diepenbrock, metalsmiths, jewelry designers and sculptors; Langan Design Associates, yacht designers; Burgin and Lambert, architects; Newport Art Museum; International Yacht Restoration School and Museum of Yachting; finally concluding with a ferry ride home on the Jamestown Ferry.

This is a sincere thank-you to our extended school family who shared in this memorable experience for all.

Stephanie Pamula,

art teacher, Lawn Avenue School
