Jamestown Press awarded town advertising contract
The Town Council on Monday awarded the contract for annual advertising services for the town to the Jamestown Press, maintaining it as the town's newspaper of record.
The award was made on the basis of the lower of two bids. The Press bid $5.50 per column inch and reported a higher onisland circulation of 5,550.
The other bidder was the Newport Daily News with a reported on-island circulation of 349 customers. The Daily News bid $19.20 per inch.
Town Administrator Bruce Keiser said that the circulation data showed that the Jamestown Press "is the only viable newspaper" serving Jamestown.
Keiser said several daily newspapers, in addition to the two publications that submitted bids, were notified that bids were being accepted for the town advertising contract.
The Press has served as Jamestown's newspaper of record since the early 1990s.
