 L E T T E R S

First, I'd like to thank all the managers for the time and effort they put in to work with the players. They are Roland Vigneault, Paul McDermott, Steve Heath, Chris Varrecchione, Pete Vetter, Alyce Dwyer, Bill Geib, Tom Hicks, Jim Simmonds, Clayton Carlisle, Luke Allen, Tony Clavenna, Tony Antonucci, Jim Reilly, Chris Atwood, Lou Bershad, and Eric Bush (who also co-ordinated the Instructional League). Also, thanks to the coaches who assisted these managers. They are Fred Reis, Gary Jackson, Al DeVellis, Rob Lambert, Bill Page, Melanie Krystkowiak, Andy MacIntyre, Mark Henning, Tom Bailey, Tom Waddington, Armand Musemeci, Jack Christie, Eric Krystkowiak, Charlie Beale, Ken Rudman, Lydia Babich, Melanie Hicks, Geherly Gomez, Art Spivak, Jim Bryer, Lisa Allen, Steve Froberg, Bob Bauer, Cheryl Atwood, and Chris Cowan. Thanks also to those who helped with umpiring, Ron Barber, and Bill Piva.

I would also like to thank our many sponsors who make this league possible. I urge all of you to consider these folks when your consumer and service needs arise. They are Conanicut Marine Services, House of Pizza, Jamestown Hardware, McQuade's market, Baker's Pharmacy, Gillis Painting, Central Garage, Jamestown Golf, Jamestown police, BankNewport Insurance, Ocean State Scuba, Jamestown Early Learning Center, Art's one-stop auto, H. V. Holland, the Jamestown Penguins, Ingtoffer, Consistent Care, Rep. Bruce Long's Del's Lemonade, Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, Island Rubbish Service, and Burke Realty.

Regarding the highly successful Babe Ruth Team, i.e. Ali's Run, special thanks are given to the Ali Dunn-Packer Foundation for sponsoring the team this year. It was and continues to be a very exciting season for these young men. They truly made an impressive "re-debut" into the Newport League this season, winning five regular season games and, as of this writing, going one deep into the post season playoffs. Manager Jim Bryer and his coaching staff should be commended for a great job.

There were a lot of behind-thescenes activities to get us prepared this season. Accordingly, I'd like to thank the Jamestown Town Council and Recreation Department for their support and help. Also, thanks to those many people who helped us on Green Up Day.

I also need to thank the Jamestown Rotary Club for providing funds in support of our new scoreboard. Thanks to Ron Barber and crew, we finally got it up and running a few weeks ago and it really looks spiffy.

Our concession stand was another great success this year. Special thanks to Bev Barber, Martha Vigneault, Barbara Szeptakowski, Susan Baccari, Maureen McDermott, Rebecca Gomez, Lori Smith, Julie Bailey, (and I've probably omitted many other helpers but thank you) for helping out and to my wife Karen for co-ordinating the activities. Also, thank you, Karen, for your patience. Being the wife of a baseball president is not easy at all.

Finally, thank you, players, families and friends. This being my first year as president, I do appreciate all the patience and support you showed me. I have made a list of lessons learned, and there will be improvements next year (one being to name a vicepresident to whom I can pass the torch after next season.) But again, thank you all. I wish you all a very safe and fun-filled summer.

Tony Rafanelli,

president, Jamestown Baseball

Association
